Latin American Abstract Geometric painting, with its strong ties to Europe yet with its undeniably great, regional protagonists, has left an enormous legacy to the contemporary art scene of the continent.
In this opportunity, Alejandra von Hartz Gallery has invited the curator, Eva Grinstein, to present a carefully selected group of artists, who inherited and continued this rich tradition in Argentine art. They “reinterpret and—in a way— render homage to the masters of the vanguard, who changed the direction of Latin American art in the mid 20th century.”
Grinstein notes: “This selection presents the work of eleven accomplished Argentine artists of the new generation, who through the use of very diverse materials and techniques—painting, reliefs, light pieces, and drawings—reignites and updates the passion for structure that characterized the artists that challenged the paradigms of representation. Embracing the power of the line and the pure play of form and colors; fascinated by geometry and the constructive impulse; and in spite of their clear differences, the eleven artists coincide in one key aspect: the necessity of formulating in their work small, perfect structures, governed by strict composite decisions that leave nothing to chance.”
La pintura abstracto-geométrica latinoamericana, de fuertes raíces europeas pero con sus innegables grandes figuras de la región, ha dejado un enorme legado en el arte contemporáneo del continente.
En la oportunidad, Alejandra von Hartz Gallery invitó a la curadora Eva Grinstein, quien hizo una cuidada selección de artistas que heredaron y continúan esta riquísima tradición en el arte argentino. Ellos “reinterpretan y en cierto modo rinden homenaje a los maestros de la vanguardia que cambiaron el rumbo del arte latinoamericano a mediados del siglo XX”.
Grinstein dice: “Esta selección presenta trabajos de once destacados artistas argentinos de la nueva generación, quienes mediante materiales y técnicas muy diversas –pinturas, relieves, piezas lumínicas, dibujo- actualizan esa pasión por la estructura que caracterizó a los artistas que desafiaron el paradigma de la representación. Aferrados al poder de la línea y al puro juego de las formas y colores; fascinados por la geometría y por el impulso constructivo, a pesar de sus evidentes diferencias los once artistas coinciden en un aspecto clave: la necesidad de formular en su obra pequeñas estructuras perfectas, regidas por estrictas decisiones compositivas que casi no dejan resquicio librado al azar”.
